Simply hold your iPhone or Apple Watch up to the card reader. Feel free to leave your wallet at home. With Apple Pay, you can pay with your Bank Zero card straight from your iPhone or Apple Watch.

All transactions require Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, and a double click on your Apple Watch. These features are designed so only you can make purchases with Apple Pay.

How to use
You can add your Bank Zero card directly from our app, or you can manually add the card to Apple Wallet. Please follow the comprehensive guidlines in our Questions & Answer section. Use your preferred Apple device to make payments, in-app or in-store purchases.
How to add your card

From your Bank Zero app:

  • Sign in to your app
  • Tap on the relevant account tile menu 
  • Tap on the Card menu item
  • Tap on Apple Pay menu item
  • On the next screen, you will see an image of your card with an ‘Add to Apple Wallet’ button
  • Tap the button and follow the intuitive process that follows

From Apple Wallet:

  • Launch Apple Wallet on your device
  • Tap the Add ⊕ button
  • Tap Previous Cards to add a card that you used previously
  • Tap Debit or Credit Card to add a new card
  • Tap Continue & follow the intuitive screen prompts

What is Apple Pay?
It is a simple and convenient way for you to make payments in-store or online for purchases, payments, subscriptions and any other types of payments where you traditionally used your tap-to-pay card, or where you see the  sign. Apple Pay utilises the NFC capabilities of Apple devices.
 utilises Near Field Communication (NFC) to wireless transmit data to card machines and compatible Point Of Sale (POS) devices. Transmission of data starts as soon as the NFC antenna in your device detects a compatible radio magnetic field, typically when you hold your phone or watch within a 4-6 cm proximity of the POS device.
Apple Wallet  is an app designed and distributed by Apple on all supported devices. It is a container where you can load and safely store banking cards, loyalty cards, supported travel boarding passes, to name a few. It is also the face of  on your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad or Mac. Inside Apple Wallet you can change various settings that will determine and customise your experience. You can also side-load an already loaded card onto other iOS devices registered with your iStore account.
  • You must have an active Bank Zero profile on at least one of the devices that you want to enable for 
  • You must have a Bank Zero check account with a debit card issued
  • Have an eligible iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac or iPad with the latest versions of the operating systems
  • Have an Apple ID signed in to iCloud on the iOS device

You can add your card manually, or automatically from your Bank Zero app.

Adding it manually

  • Launch Apple Wallet on your device
  • Tap the Add (+) button
  • Tap Previous Cards to add a card that you used previously
  • Tap Debit or Credit Card to add a new card
  • Tap Continue
  • To add your card:
    • Tap or hold your card close to your iPhone to add it
    • To add your card manually, tap Enter Card Details Manually and follow the onscreen instructions
  • You will be prompted for further authentication.
    • An SMS with an OTP sent to your registered cellphone number
    • Launch the banking app. If the app isn’t installed on your device, this option will require the app to be installed first

 

Automatically from your Bank Zero app

  • Login to your Bank Zero app
  • If you do not see a splash screen that presents your available cards to be added, tap on the relevant account’s 3-dot menu, and select Apple Wallet
  • Below the card displayed, you will see a button ‘Add to Apple Wallet’ Tap on it.
  • Follow the screens presented, i.e. T&Cs accepted, etc.
  • That is it – your card should be added after you have followed the intuitive process flow
  • In some rare cases, you may find the additional requirement to authenticate. Read the screens and follow the flow.

  • On your device, open Wallet & Apple Pay settings under your Device Settings
    • On your Mac model with Touch ID, go to System Settings (or System Preferences) > Wallet & Apple Pay
    • On your iPad or Vision Pro, go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay
  • Select Add Card
  • Follow the steps on the screen to add your card
  • You will be prompted for further authentication.
    • An SMS with an OTP sent to your registered cellphone number
    • Launch the banking app.

If you have a paired Apple Watch, you have the option to add the card to your watch

  1. On your paired iPhone, open the Apple Watch app
  2. In the My Watch tab, tap Wallet & Apple Pay
  3. Select Add Card
    • Tap Debit or Credit Card to add a new card
    • Tap Previous Card to add a card that you used previously
  4. Tap Continue
  5. To add your card
    • Tap or hold your card close to your iPhone to add it
    • If you’re unable to add your card by tapping or holding it close to your iPhone, position your card in the frame on the screen to scan it
    • To add your card manually, tap Enter Card Details Manually and follow the onscreen instructions
  6. Select your preferred choice of Authentication method to authenticate your card with us

 

Follow the steps on the screen in the Wallet app on your Apple Watch to manually add your card to your watch

Yes, unfortunately you do, but if you use the same Apple ID on all your devices, the cards added previously will be available for selection from Previous Cards

In the Bank Zero app > Account Menu > next to the Apple Wallet menu will be a green tick

In the Bank Zero App > Account Menu > Apple Wallet > the option to add your card to the wallet will be replaced with a View in Wallet button

Your card should be available immediately after you have added it to the Wallet and have complied with the authorisation methods if you were presented with it.
  1. Make sure you sign in to iCloud on all of your devices. On your iOS device, you need to set up Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode. On your Apple Watch, you’ll need to set up a passcode. If you sign out of iCloud or remove your passcode, all credit, debit, loyalty, and other cards will be removed from that device.
  2. If you’re under the age of 13, Apple Pay isn’t available and you can’t add a card in the Wallet app. Age varies by country or region.
  3. In China mainland, you can only use Apple Pay on the web in Safari on compatible iPhone and iPad models using iOS 11.2 or later.
  4. Apple Pay is a service provided by certain Apple affiliates, as designated by the Apple Pay privacy notice. Neither Apple Inc. nor its affiliates are a bank. Any card used in Apple Pay is offered by the card issuer.

 

  1. Check that you are able to use Apple Pay:
  2. Check for service outages or connection issues
  3. Contact Bank Zero support on Whatsapp +27 79 221 6628 if you see any of the following errors while adding your card to Apple Wallet
    • Could not Add Card
    • Invalid Card
    • Card Device Limit
  4. Make sure you are in a supported region
 is safer than using your physical bank card. Every transaction on your iPhone, iPad or Mac requires you to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your Passcode. Your Apple Watch is protected by the passcode that only you know, and the passcode is required every time that you put on your Apple Watch, of when you pay using . Your card number, CVV and other private data is never shared with the merchant. In fact, your actual card numbers aren’t even stored on your device, not even on Apple servers. Using  in shops never sends actual card data to the merchant. Online payments in browsers, will only share information such as names, email addresses, and physical addresses that you provide and authorise in order to fulfil your transaction.  retains anonymous transaction information such as the approximate transaction amount. It is information that cannot be tied back to you and never includes what you are buying. Please also take note of our privacy policy

 stores a digital token on your device. You can view these tokens from within your Bank Zero app: Account Menu > Card > Card Settings, or Account Menu > Card > Subscriptions. Disabling these subscriptions will disable that token on the linked device immediately. Scroll until you see the relevant subscription and tap on it to change the check to a cross. Remember to update the settings and confirm. Even if the security on the device can still be breached, this action will render the installed token on that device unusable.

Under these circumstances, we strongly encourage you to also remove your profile from the compromised device/s, by following these instructions:

  • Pair on a device that has not been compromised – i.e. your spouse, co-worker or even an Android device
  • Once you are logged in, make sure your app is not in safe mode (you can expedite this by contacting us on WhatsApp +27 79 221 6628)
  • On your main canvas, in the top left hand corner, tap on the Person Icon > Paired Devices
  • You will see a listing of devices on which you are paired
  • Tapping on the compromised device will provide you with an opportunity to remove yourself from that device
    • Tap on your own image
    • Tap on the Bin icon in the top bar
    • Tap confirm to permanently remove access to your profile from that device
  • Locking your card from the Card Settings will also prevent the tokens in your Apple Wallet from working
  • Any risk associated with that device and your banking profile, will seize to exist

There are several ways in which your bank card can be replaced.

  • You cancelled your existing card by selecting the option from your Account > Card sub-menu
    • Your tokens on all the devices linked to this card will be suspended
    • You can re-instate the tokens, subscriptions and card authoriser, by ordering a new card and by selecting the option to keep your old card PAN
  • You order a new card without cancelling the existing card first
    • Your tokens will remain active
    • Your subscriptions and authoriser will remain active
    • Once you activate your new card (Account Menu > Card > Activate Card) your old card will be cancelled
      • All your tokens will be transferred to your new card
      • All your subscriptions will be transferred to your new card
      • Your card authoriser will be transferred to the new card
  • Your existing card is approaching expiry
    • A task will be raised in your app for you to action
    • When you tap on the task, you will be navigated to the screen where you order a new card
    • The same procedure as ordering a new card without cancelling the old one first will apply
 is linked to an Apple ID. If your child is younger than 13 years old they cannot set up their own Apple ID or use Apple Pay. However, if you are a parent or a gardian, you can create an Apple ID for a child under 13 and set up Apple Cash Family for them. This allows them to use Apple Cash for purchases within the Family Sharing group and to send/receive money. If your child is 13 years old or older, they will be able to set up their own Apple ID which in turn will allow them to user Apple Pay. You can then add a card to their Apple Wallet
Most Point of Sale devices today, support Tap to Pay. In South Africa, that will be good enough for  to work. Before you travel overseas, make sure that the region you are visiting is included in Apple’s supported regions

Paying in-store with iPhone – Touch ID:

  • Double-tap the home button on your iPhone to show the Apple Pay Wallet
  • Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader with your finger on Touch ID
  • When your iPhone has sent the payment information, the terminal will give a visual or audible confirmation
  • Your phone will gently vibrate and beep
  • You will see ‘Done’ and a tick on your iPhone display

 

Paying in-store with iPhone – Face ID (or your passcode):

  • Double-tap the side button on your iPhone
  • You will see your default card and the Face ID icon
  • After authenticating, you will see a message ‘Hold Near Reader’
  • Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader
  • When your iPhone has sent the payment information, the terminal will give a visual or audible confirmation
  • Your phone will gently vibrate and beep
  • You will see ‘Done’ and a tick on your iPhone display

 

Paying in-store with your Apple Watch:

  • Double-click the side button, then touch the face of your Apple Watch to the contactless reader
  • When your Apple Watch has sent the payment information, the terminal will give a visual or audible confirmation
  • You will feel a gentle tap on your wrist and hear a beep from your Apple Watch
  • You will see a tick and a message ‘Done’ on your Apple Watch

 

It works exactly the same as when you use your physical card. The process will depend on the policies and procedures of the merchant.

Your last 10 most recent transactions will be visible in the  app. Simply tap on a card in the Apple Wallet app to see the transactions made with that card You will also receive Push Notifications to your device after every  transaction A more comprehensive list of transactions is available in the Bank Zero app and can be viewed by tapping on the balance of the relevant account.  transactions can be identified by the cellular phone and RFID icon

No it won’t. You can cancel your Bank Zero card by accessing the menu item via Account Menu > Card > Cancel Card.

No. You will verify yourself on your iPhone or Apple Watch using your fingerprint, Face ID or passcode – depending on your device model and preferences. Some merchant devices may still require your PIN entry, but it isn’t common practice.
As with any card transaction, you will receive a merchant receipt for your purchases when you pay with

This very much depends on the merchant’s policies & procedures. Some merchants may require you to present your physical card and to enter it into the POS device with PIN verification before they will make the refund, while others may refund you in cash. Common practice would be for you to tap your device again

iPhone or iPad

  • Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay
  • Tap on the card that you want to remove
  • Scroll down until you see ‘Remove This Card’
  • Tap on ‘Remove This Card’ & follow the confirmation prompts

 

Apple Watch

  • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, and go to the My Watch tab
  • Scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, then tap the card that you want to remove
  • Scroll down until you see ‘Remove This Card’
  • Tap on ‘Remove This Card’ & follow the confirmation prompts

 

Or tap Wallet on the Home screen of your Apple Watch, tap a card, press it firmly and tap ‘Remove Card’

From inside the Bank Zero App:

  • Tap on the relevant Account Menu
  • Tap Card > Subscriptions or Card > Settings and scroll to subscriptions
  • Tap on the relevant device and Wallet to disable the entry
  • Update and confirm the card settings
  • The card will be removed from the relevant Wallet
Yes, your device must be connected to the internet and you must have data available to verify and validate your transactions.

You have 5 attempts to validate your transaction with your fingerprint and/or iris. After 5 failed attempts,  will not accept your fingerprint, face or iris again for authentication. You will still have 20 attempts to enter the correct PIN, after which all your  data will be deleted and all linked cards will be deregistered

This will also adversely affect your account and device integrity scores with Apple.

With Bank Zero, you can load up to 9 cards to the same Wallet.

Apple will restrict you to 12 unique cards on all supported iPhones (> iPhone 8 and Apple Watch Series 3)

The same card can be added to unique devices. Passes (e.g. loyalty cards and concert tickets) do not count towards these limits

No, it is not possible. You need to have an active internet connection. You also need the ability to receive an SMS OTP if you do not have the app installed on your device.
It depends on whether the vendor have built-in support for  on their website or app.
  1. Check for Apple Pay: When making a purchase in an app or on a website, look for the Apple Pay button or option during the checkout process
  2. Initiate Payment: Tap the Apple Pay  button or select the option
  3. Review and Customise: Review the payment information, including the payment method, and make any necessary changes like choosing a different card or updating shipping/billing addresses
  4. Authenticate: Authenticate your payment using Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode
  5. Complete the Purchase: The purchase will be completed, and you may see a confirmation on your screen or in your browser

Apple Pay is compatible with a range of Apple devices, including iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads and Macs. Specifically, it works on iPhone 6 and later, Apple Watch Series 3 and later (paired with an iPhone 6 or later), iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and later, and iPad mini 3 and later. Additionally, Macs (2012 or later) can use Apple Pay in Safari with an Apple Pay-enabled iPhone or Apple Watch.
